Richard Rochon

Richard Lee Rochon, 88, of Springfield, died April 17. There will be a rosary at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at noon on Monday, May 8, at St. Paul Church in Eugene.

Mr. Rochon was born Sept. 13, 1928, to Douglas and Ruth (Lloyd) Rochon in San Antonio, Texas.

At the age of 28, after researching secular and historical documents on the early church fathers, he made a decision to become a Catholic. He loved Scripture and meditated on it daily, both while praying the rosary and at Mass. He was a parishioner at St. John in Reedsport for 50 years. There he taught religious education, was a lector and worked in prison ministry.

After moving to Springfield, he became a parishioner at St. Paul and was a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul.

Mr. Rochon was an award-winning photographer whose studio was one of the longest operating independent businesses in Reedsport.  He was active on the local school board and was often read in “letters to the editor” in the Register Guard.

He was proceeded in death by his first wife, Rose Aiello, in 1992. He is survived by his second wife, Dorothy Eileen (Robertson) Rochon.

From his first marriage, he is survived by nine children, 28 grandchildren, and 44 great-grandchildren.  From his wife Dorothy, he inherited six more children, 14 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren for a total of 114. Counting 35 in-laws, he is survived by 149.

Contributions may be made in his name to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, or you may have a Mass offered for his intentions.
