Jean Marie Peterson died peacefully March 11 at the age of 85 years old. She was born in Norfolk, Nebraska Jan. 30, 1932, and moved to Portland in 1944 where she lived for 73 years. She attended Couch Elementary and was a 1950 graduate of Lincoln High School. She is an alumnus of Lewis and Clark College and Emmanuel Nursing Program. She worked as a registered nurse in Portland for 43 years.
Peterson was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Esther Patterson. She is survived by her four children: Juliet Spaulding (Jim), Lucinda Peterson-Tone (Katrina), Matthew Peterson (Vermillion), and John Peterson (Brenda). She is also survived by her nine grandchildren: Paul and Sean Spaulding, Obadiah, Josiah, Amira, Elizabeth, Jeremiah, and Emily Peterson, and Maleia Peterson-Tone.
Peterson was a member of St. Ignatius Parish in SE Portland for 34 years. A funeral mass was held at the parish March 21.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for remembrances to be sent to St. Joseph's Indian School.
