The same craftsmen who make ornaments and ceramics for the Vatican have sent a batch to Oregon, where they are on sale at the Grotto, the Catholic sanctuary at Northeast 85th and Sandy. Rampini Ceramics makes and paints ornaments by hand.

Giuseppe Rampini was born in Gubbio, an Umbrian town where ceramics have been created since the 15th century. In the 1980s he and his son, Romano, opened a small ceramics business.

Many ornaments have a Madonna and child theme. One holy water holder has an image of St. Peregrine, a favorite at the Grotto.
