Veterans honor students

Cadet Hector Martinez and Cadet Jesus Ferreya are honored by Oregon City High School’s junior ROTC instructor, Maj. Doug Thomas.


Six students in the Archdiocese of Portland were honored with the Catholic War Veterans Achievement Medal by Catholic War Veterans, Oregon, for the 2016-2017 school year. The students are all members of the junior ROTC military youth program at their respective high schools.

From Lebanon High School, Cadet Allie Flanigan won gold (second award), Cadet Donovan Seiber won silver (second award) and Cadet Andrew Salinas won bronze (second award). All of these cadets attend St. Edward Parish in Lebanon.

From Oregon City High School, Cadet Yulisa Romero won gold (third award). He attends St. John the Apostle Parish in Oregon City. Cadet Jesus Ferreya, who won silver, attends St. John the Baptist Parish in Milwaukie. Cadet Hector Martinez, who won bronze, also attends St. John the Apostle Parish.

From North Salem High School, Bricia Gonzalez Reyes was awarded the gold medal, Anthony Ramos was awarded the silver medal and Jorge Ochoa was awarded bronze. All three students attend St. Joseph Parish in Salem. The drill team from the school also placed second in exhibition drill, second overall and National Runner Up at the 2017 National High School Drill Team Championships in May.
