ROY — Graduating students from St. Francis of Assisi School have been instrumental this year in leading two fundraisers. One was in Advent with the student council collecting nonperishable food for the local St. Vincent de Paul food pantry and the Banks Sonrise Food Bank.  The students collected a total of 1,600 pounds of food.

During Lent, the school supported the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through the Pennies for Patients program. That effort raised $3,164.

Several St. Francis eighth-graders have been recognized for achievements throughout this past year:

• Ben Day won first place at the school’s science fair, then also placed at the NW Science Expo.

• Katie Stadelman, Anastasia Nguyen and Ben Day each placed in the school speech contest. All of the eighth-graders participated in the Valley Catholic Speech Tournament.

• Anastasia, Katie and Ben have been active in the school’s student council, serving as officers and organizing schoolwide fundraisers.
