BEAVERTON — St. Cecilia will hold its graduation for 24 eighth-graders at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, at St. Cecilia Church.
Administrators say St. Cecilia students live as active Catholics who embody their faith by serving the needs of others and believing they can make a difference. Eighth-grade students were asked to share experiences that have helped them grow in respect for self and others. Their responses include:
— Service to Northwest Children’s Outreach and the Oregon Food Bank provided opportunities to prepare clothing and food donations for those less fortunate than us, who are children of God. Working with and for others is joyful and warms the heart.
— St. Cecilia’s adoration chapel and visits to St. Mary Cathedral and Mount Angel enabled us to extend and become more immersed in our faith by opening our hearts to God during prayer.
— Through Family Group and Big Buddy/Little Buddy programs, we are able to care for others in our school community.
— Student Council leadership opportunities, including being good role models and positively interacting with students, help open our hearts for the good of the whole school.
— Forming unique bonds with each of my peers has resulted in wonderful friendships — friends who will be there when needed. When people are hurt, hearts open up to help them. When someone has a failed attempt, open hearts help them gain confidence to try again.
— Not judging someone by what they look like, but discovering what’s on their inside, makes us open to growth and opportunities.
