Each can act

A friend gave me a copy of “Milligrams of mercy” by Patricia Matteri (July 1, page 18). It was a timely gift. National events threaten to overwhelm our best intentions and our own acts of mercy.

It was good to be reminded, faced as we are with a tsunami of need, ill will, and despair, that each of us can act. We may feel paralyzed and guilty, but even our smallest efforts matter. The article is, itself, “a milligram of mercy, moving us to begin, to act and to go on from there.”
