Outside their normal sphere
Holy Cross School
Anna Nguyen and Savannah Bashaw, who will be eighth graders at Holy Cross School in North Portland, experimented by living in poverty for a day.
Regarding “Two schoolgirls reflect on poverty,” (March 18, p. 6):
I was 18 when the Navy sent me to the Philippines, and while I was there I experienced first hand what it was like to live outside of the United States.
What these young ladies from Holy Cross School are talking about is a great lesson for those of us who are lucky enough not to live all the time like they did for 24 hours.
When you walk in someone else’s shoes you really do learn a lesson.
I am glad these young ladies did learn about something outside of their normal sphere of life.
This is all part of growing up and they seem to be doing a very nice job of that. Congratulations.
