I have just reread Archbishop Sample’s column “Rejoice! But in suffering?” (June 17, pg. 2) He is such a good and holy shepherd. He encourages us to proclaim the truth of our faith especially “in the largely secular and relativistic culture that is western Oregon.” He reminds us that “We are so tempted to ‘go along to get along.’”
He challenged us to ask ourselves “Why we are afraid to speak up and witness to the truth of our faith before our neighbors?” He even shares with us that “The next time I am tempted to keep my mouth shut, ‘soft pedal’ my faith or “go along to get along”...that he will remember those who have died, even horrific deaths, because they have refused to deny Christ.
Do we have that kind of courage? Thank you, Archbishop Sample, for your example, your faithfulness and your guidance. You are a good shepherd.
