Four Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon departed for a mission in Peru 50 years ago.

Four Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon left yesterday for a jungle outpost on the Amazon river in Peru, to be their order’s first foreign missionary workers.

Mother M. Angela SSMO, former superior general at the Beaverton motherhouse and convent; Sister Ina Marie, SSMO; Sister Margaret Mary, SSMO; and Sister M. Kateri, SSMO, will serve with Father Francis Kennard and Father James Kalberer at the Portland archdiocesan mission at Tamshiyacu, near Iquitos in the eastern Peruvian jungle.
